Oscars
Posted in Uncategorized on March 29th, 2007 by animationpimpMan, ya know, I expect the Oscar short selection to bite most years but at least they get a couple right. In fact, used to be a time when you could be pretty damn sure that the 4-5 nominees all played at festivals. Not no more. These days the nominees are littered with studio produced garbage. And sure, I admit that they did at least get it right with The Danish Poet. It blows the rest of the films away, but hey, let’s not kid ourselves… the Danish poet is no show stopper. I didnt even take it for Ottawa and it didnt exactly burn up the festival circuit. It’s another rather okay on a rainy day average film from a pretty average filmmaker. But hey, I’m glad for the NFB. They need to show their shiny trophies to the policticians so they can keep their funding alive. And hey, Toril’s not a bad animator by any means, just not my thang. Granted, she was hot up there. Man. Okay, enough… so yeah, where were the short films? Are animators happy that the public will define the past year in animation through shit like Little match Girl and this bloody Hungarian cock film… This was a very strong year for animation short films. Where was Dreams and Desires, Never Like the First Time, Rabbit, Tragedy with a Happy Ending? Dreams isnt exactly my favourite film, but hell man you can’t argue with it’s success. Guess the academy twits dont like fat chicks. First time is out cause it’s about REAL sex and Rabbit has kids being killed… yeah… i guess animation and reality just dont mix with academy members. No wonder animation can’t grow up. It’s minders keep locking it in it’s room
